    Customized Private Excursion to Tuusula

This is a 5/5 star local guide. Timo and his wife Aria are wonderfully/knowledgeable travel guides. Timo toured me around Jarvenpaa and then afterward he welcomed me into his house for a dinner meal. This personal experience is what travel is about and allowed us to have a cross cultural dialogue. This was hands down the highlight of my trip to Finland. If you book a tour with Timo you will not be disappointed. Timo was able to turn me from a tourist to a temporary local! 10/10 would do again.

    postimäki near porvoo

    Picture
Old home of  hatstraw maker at Postimäki, "mail post hill"
    Picture
    So how are these made?
    Picture
The first things you need are the straws
    Picture
The straws are plaited together to form a band
    Picture
The plaited strawbands are flattened with a pressure roller
    Picture
One product of the Postimäki residents was this kind of strawband. These were sent to next handicrafters in Porvoo town, to sew them side-by-side together, to form a hat
    Picture
Final product was a hat or a bag
    Picture
You could also make straw-bocks of the straws
    Picture
Postimäki people had to mill their grain with hand-rotated stones to produce flour - bread was not sold in shops, as there were no shops either...
    Picture
Postimäki museum is being kept in condition by voluntary people
